5 Things I've Learned from Playing The Sims 3

The Sims 3 is an awesome simulation game where players can control the lives of characters that they create from choosing their careers to making them talk to strangers or go see a movie at the cinema. Not only that, but you can design your character to be fat or thin, muscular or skinny, a baby or an adult...the possibilities are endless! You can control what your character looks like right down to what pajamas they wear to what shape their eyebrows are.

Now I've compiled a list of 5 things I have learned [about life] since playing this game.

1. There's always something else to do. Depending on your interests you can watch tv, go for a jog, learn to garden, take a walk into town, talk to strangers at the library or park, take up a part time job at the salon, bookstore, or grocery store, read a book to learn a new skill, redecorate your house, go fishing, overclock your computer, talk into the mirror to improve your charisma, take classes to learn a new skill, and the list is pretty endless.

2. Random bad things happen...but so do good things. A burglar can break into your house and steal your stove before you can wake up to call the police. You can be on a date at a restaurant, join in the table next to you that's singing "Happy Birthday," and get a raise because it turned out to be your boss's friend's birthday.

3. You can make a living off of gardening, fishing, mooching money and food from people, selling paintings, and writing books/articles.

4. If your basic needs aren't met chances are you're angry or depressed. Who would be happy if your house is cluttered, your fridge is empty, your bed is uncomfortable, your shower only puts out cold water, your walls are bare and ugly, or you just haven't been getting enough social interaction.

5. I take life very seriously. I tend to play the game the way I want life to be in real life. Everyone in the household has a stable job, everyone gets along and has good personality traits, the house is big and beautiful, everyone likes to cook and use the computer, there is enough money to go shopping or out into town, etc. My characters tend to be normal and do what is expected of them...most of the time.

I must warn you that if you have not yet played this game it is highly addicting. When I first started playing The Sims 2 for the playstation I somehow stayed up playing 6 hours after my bedtime. The Sims 3 is much more addictive because there is just so much to do.

YOU KNOW YOU’RE A BEADER WHEN ~ TOP 10 LIST

1. An exciting night for you means organizing your massive collection.
2. You have more pairs of pliers than your husband does.
3. The first thing you do while on vacation is flip through the yellow pages to find a bead shop to buy more beads, and you already have over 200 lbs. sitting at home!
4. You count beads and stitches instead of sheep to fall asleep at night.
5. Beading stores know you by your first name, and have your credit card number on file.
6. Every conceivable surface in your home , including your pets, is covered with finished jewelry, multiple beading projects, new beads not yet put away, beads on display, and beaded décor.
7. Your pantry and cupboards have more beads than food in them!
8. Long gone are the cute little bead storage containers. Jumbo sized Costco toolboxes that are full to overflowing, but you still have beads everywhere!
9. You justify buying more beads with one-liners like; “My beading addiction is healthier than smoking” or, “Beads won’t ruin my diet because they don’t have calories.”
10. Your family can’t remember the last time they ate at the kitchen table, which is known as no man’s land under certain death if they dump over your bead board or cups of beads.

Beadaholics Anonymous 12 Step Program

1. I will not stuff beads in every corner of my house.
2. I will not keep nine beading projects going at one time.
3. I will not pick up more beads when I have a tonne at home.
4. I will not let my beading area look like a condemned area.
5. I will not relegate the kitchen table to my beading projects.
6. I will not attend bead shows just to pick up more beads.
7. I will not stock up on more beading supplies just because they are on sale.
8. I will not go off on a tangent when anyone mentions that little word "import".
9. I will not let my beading distract me from fixing dinner.
10. I will not stay up all night beading.
11. I will not buy every bead magazine I see.
12. I will not make promises I cannot keep.
